### How to Ensure Your Plants Survive and Thrive Plants play an essential role in our environment. They provide oxygen, purify the air, and provide animals with habitats. Sadly, many people cannot seem to keep plants alive and growing. If you are about to mow down a plant or give up on it, take a look at these must-know methods for keeping plants healthy and on the path to flourishing.#### 1. Know Your Plant’s Preferences Plants, trees, and shrubs all have preferences for light, water, humidity, and temperature. Knowing the specifics of what your plant, tree, or shrub prefers will help you do the right things to help it thrive.- **Light:** Some plants prefer full sun, some need part sun, and some won’t tolerate any direct sun! – **Water:** Anyone who has watered a plant too much knows that it is deadly for a plant. It is a common problem we all run into! Be sure to check the wetness of the soil before you water. Some plants will prefer to dry out a little between waterings.- **Humidity:** If you grow tropical plants, humidity around 60% is desired. You could mist your plants or use a humidifier. #### 2. Choose Quality SoilThe type of soil you use will have some effect on the success of your plant. Invest in high-quality potting soil that is suited to the type of plant (for example – cactus mix). Good soil will give your plant nutrients, hopefully retain moisture, and allow for enough drainage.#### 3. Fertilize During Growing Season Plants need nutrients to grow. While there are many types of fertilizers you can use during growing season, it is desirable to use a balanced fertilizer so that the plant receives all of the nutrients it loves.
